Rewri (Sesame Sweet)
Rewri is the flattest sweet on our winter shelf: a thin, round disc of toasted sesame seed held together by a hard sugar coat, crisp enough to snap between your fingers. It is the sweet that turns up next to the tea in Quetta homes as soon as the evenings turn cold, and it has been made this way for generations. At WD Foods, rewri is Rs 320 for 500g and Rs 640 for 1kg, checked on 30 October 2026.
How a rewri is made
Sesame seed is toasted until it turns nutty and golden, then stirred into hot sugar syrup and pressed flat while the mix is still warm. As it cools, the syrup sets into a glassy coat and the disc hardens. That is the whole recipe: seed, sugar and timing, which is why a poor batch has nowhere to hide. Under-toasted seed tastes flat and raw. Syrup cooked a moment too far turns the disc so hard it fights your teeth instead of snapping.
Sesame, honestly
Sesame is a genuinely nourishing seed, with calcium, good fats and a little protein in it. But rewri wears a coat of sugar, and I sell it as what it is: a sweet, not a health food in disguise. A disc or two with tea is the traditional portion, and that is exactly the right way to enjoy it.

How to judge it, and how to keep it
A good rewri snaps cleanly, smells of toasted seed rather than syrup, and shows seed packed edge to edge. A disc that is mostly sugar with seed sprinkled on top is a cheaper thing wearing rewri's name. Keep the pack airtight and dry. Sesame sweets pull moisture out of the air quickly, and a soft rewri has lost the whole point of itself. Sealed and dry, it holds its crunch for several weeks. More winter sweets sit in our sweet snacks collection, and the full shelf is in the dry fruits price list.
Questions I hear most
What is the difference between rewri and til ladoo? Same family, different shape and binding. Rewri is a flat disc set in a sugar coat. Til ladoo is a round ball, bound with jaggery, and softer to bite.
How long does rewri stay fresh? Several weeks in an airtight pack in a dry place. If it turns bendy, moisture got in. Keep it away from the kettle and the steamy side of the kitchen.
