Katori Momo
A katori momo is a snack that is also its own serving bowl. These are small, crisp flour cups, ready to eat, and they do two jobs in a Pakistani kitchen. Eaten plain with tea they are a light, crunchy bite. Filled, they become katori chaat, the street snack, built at home in about five minutes with whatever is already in the fridge. At Rs 270 for 500g and Rs 540 for 1kg, this is one of the lowest priced snacks in our entire range, and per filled cup it may be the cheapest chaat in the country.
| Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Katori momo, 500g | Rs 270 |
| Katori momo, 1kg | Rs 540 |
| Masala chips, 1kg | Rs 1,000 |
| Finger chips masala, 1kg | Rs 1,000 |
Katori chaat in five minutes
Set the cups on a tray. In each one put a spoon of boiled chana or diced potato, some finely chopped onion and tomato, a spoon of whisked dahi, a drizzle of imli chutney, and a pinch of chaat masala. Finish with sev from our nimko range and fresh coriander if you have it. That is the whole recipe. Two honest rules: fill the cups at the last moment, because a filled katori waits for nobody and softens within minutes; and make a few more than you counted, because the cook tastes two during assembly. Everyone does.
Handling and storage
The cups are crisp, which also means they are fragile. Keep them in a rigid airtight box rather than a bag, away from steam and sunlight, and lift them out by the handful from the top instead of digging. Stored that way they keep their crunch well. For a party, the kilo pack is the sensible buy: chaat for a full table of guests still leaves cups over for tea the next day.
Questions we hear at the counter
What is the katori momo price in Pakistan? Rs 540 for 1kg and Rs 270 for 500g at WD Foods.
Do the cups need frying? No. They are ready to eat and ready to fill, straight from the packet.
What else can I fill them with? Chana and potato are the classic base. Fruit chaat, sprouted moong with lemon, and even a spoon of dahi with roasted zeera all work. Keep fillings fairly dry so the cup stays crisp to the last bite.
